The Cure: A World of Their Own By 1986, The Cure had become one of the most distinctive bands in alternative rock. Instead of following trends, they created a sound that was entirely their own. Listen to “A Forest.” The hypnotic bass, shimmering guitar and steady drums pull you into a mysterious, almost cinematic atmosphere. There’s no need for a huge chorus. The music tells the story. It’s a great reminder that sometimes a simple bass line and a few carefully chosen notes can be more powerful than a massive production. Even decades later, The Cure still capture that magic.
